St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital’s Birthing Center just received a certificate of excellence from the New York State Department of Health for its compliance with screening procedures for hepatitis B.
The state requires hospitals and birthing facilities to test birth mothers for the hepatitis B antigen and to vaccinate newborn infants within 12 hours of delivery. The SLCH birthing center was found to be 100 percent compliant, one of only three in the region to attain certification.
SLCH opened the renovated birthing center in 2008, offering enhanced labor and delivery rooms with private bathrooms, showers and semi-private recovery rooms.
