Jeffrey S. Wynans, new City of Newburgh Water Department Superintendent signs his oath of office. City Clerk Laurene Vitek (at right) administered the oath.
The city of Newburgh has a new water department superintendent. Jeffrey S. Wynans has been sworn into office, taking the place of former superintendent John Platt who retired in March after a dozen years in the position.
Wynans most recently serviced as water service superintendent for the Northern Westchester Joint Water Works. He has also worked as the senior boiler and water plant operator for the Mohonk Mountain House and day-to-day operation of the Millwood and New Paltz Water Treatment plant.
The city of Newburgh water department oversees a 150-year-old system that is supplied by the Lake Washington reservoir. The reservoir holds approximately 1.5 billion gallons of water the total use of the City of Newburgh for one year. The original 20-inch and 30-inch water mains, although over 100 years old, are still in operation and supply the City of Newburgh with water every day.
