If you own a building in the city of Newburgh that needs a serious spruce-up, now is the time to apply for a grant or loan for up to $25,000 that can be used to repair the building’s façade.
The city planning and development department is accepting applications through November 1, 2010 for the funds that are available as part of a federal Community Block Development Grant of $830,00 for 2010. The block grant totals approximately $4.5 million over the next five years.
Demetrious Faulk, a housing loan officer with the city planning department says that three applications have already been approved for the façade work this year and several more are pending.
One of the buildings where the work has already been done, at 107 Liberty Street, is the home of Rosebud Realty. On Saturday, building owner Stacie Laskin pointed out the work that she has been able to do with the grant money, including a copper trim beneath the roof that will soon be added to the windows as well.
If a building rehab is too much to handle, business owners are encouraged to apply for $500 grants for new signs. Faulk says that in the past year only two business owners have taken advantage of the smaller sign grant but funds exist for many more.
