From Ellenjane Gonyea, Nora Cronin Presentation Academy
The Nora Cronin Presentation Academy, which serves middle-school age girls who have been marginalized by poverty in the city of Newburgh, invites the public to take part in its 6th annual Gala and Auction, the Perfect Present, to be held on Sunday, October 17 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Anthony’s Pier 9 in New Windsor. The gala is the largest fundraiser for the school and it has become a popular “go to” event for the greater Orange County community. All proceeds go directly to the academy’s educational program and operating expenses.
Guests will enjoy cocktails and canapés starting at 1 pm as they check out more than 250 silent auction items to bid on. A live auction of 40 premium items follows, featuring Dooney & Bourke handbags, Saratoga Springs getaway, Belleayre Mountain skiing, kayaking, restaurants, antiques and tickets to Broadway musicals Memphis and Fela. Sports fans will be able to bid for Yankee tickets for 2011, Giants and Jets tickets, and Touchdown Club seating at Giants Stadium.
A sumptuous buffet dinner follows and there will be an open bar throughout the gala and auction.
Special features at this year’s event include a visit from Santa and his helpers who will be presenting for sale some beautiful unset precious gems. Purchasers will be entered into a drawing for a gorgeous gemstone tennis bracelet to be drawn that day.
The craft work of NCPA students will be available for sale. Under the direction of volunteer art teachers Barbara Hatfield and Caren Aiello, the girls have created beautiful lamps with shades made from reproductions of historic Newburgh maps. They will sell for $30 each, with proceeds going toward the academy’s annual spring school trip.
Tickets at $65 each (pre-purchase is required) are available through Dr. Michele Winchester-Vega, 339 Blooming Grove Turnpike, New Windsor, NY 12553. For Journal Ads contact Helena Giunta at 914-213-0631. For further information please call the academy at 845-567-0708.
