In recognition of Nation Geography Week, students and staff at Horizons-on-the-Hudson participated in a school wide t-shirt contest. The objective was to wear a t-shirt with a location as far away from Newburgh as possible. Top winners include, fifth grader Lane Dingwell’s t-shirt with the planet/moon Pluto, third grader Giuliana Marino’s Australia t-shirt, and kindergarten teacher Klaus Solomon’s t-shirt also representing Australia.
Students participated in geography lessons and discussions throughout that week, which were then followed up by a school-wide focus on the character trait of open-mindedness and the attitudes of curiosity, tolerance, appreciation, and respect. The character education focus is all a part of HOH’s pursuit of International Baccalaureate accreditation. The school is in their 3rd year as an IB candidate school.
