The superintendent of the Newburgh Enlarged City School District, Dr. Annette M. Saturnelli, passed away on Monday, December 20, after a long illness. Dr. Saturnelli had served as superintendent for six years after filling various administrative positions in the district for a total of nearly 25 years. During her long career in education in Newburgh she served as acting superintendent, deputy superintendent, executive director for funded programs and director of science.
In a statement the school district recognized Dr. Saturnelli’s dedication to educating students: “Dr. Annette Saturnelli’s commitment to the students and children throughout the District has been unwavering. Her passion for the education and academic success of students in the Newburgh community, as well as her desire to create a better future for the Newburgh Enlarged City School District, serves as an example to all that had the privilege to work with her.”
Last week, the district announced that it had begun a formal search process for a new superintendent.
