A Newburgh man failed in his attempt to bury himself in a snow bank to evade police early Monday morning and he ended up charged with two felonies — burglary and criminal mischief in the third degree.
Police report that they responded to a burglary alarm at a small grocery store/deli at 193 Broadway in the city of Newburgh around 3 am. Police say they saw a hole in the ceiling and determined that a burglar had entered a vacant apartment above the store, then pried up floor boards to get into the deli.
Two officers followed footprints in the snow to a nearly alley, where they found 50-year-old Von Ross trying to hide in the snow. They also recovered a small amount of cash, Cds and cigarettes.
