You know that it is a St. Patrick’s celebration when not one but two top Irish music acts are performing on the same day – and at the same time — in Newburgh.
This Sunday, the Dublin City Ramblers bring their foot-tapping Irish folk music to Mount Saint Mary College’s Aquinas Hall at 3 pm in a performance marking the 175th birthday of St. Patrick’s Church. The Ramblers are considered the top Irish ballad performers in the world and they have recorded eight gold albums during their 25-year career.
Tickets for the Dublin City Ramblers concert are available after Mass at Saint Patrick’s, 55 Grand Street, or at the Rectory. Visit www.stpatricksnewburgh.org for more information about the concert and tickets. Doors open at 2 p.m.; tickets are $15.
If listening to the lovely tunes of an Irish fiddler in a free concert appeals to you more, Brian Conway, a premier Irish-American fiddler, will perform a free concert at the Newburgh Free Library on Sunday, March 20 at 3 pm.
The distinctness of Conway’s tone, the lift of his playing, and the deft ornamentation he brings to the tunes have placed him among the finest Irish fiddlers of any style. His talents have also been enthusiastically received throughout Ireland and the rest of Europe. He is also a noted instructor who has mentored many fine fiddle players, including several who have gone on to win All-Ireland championships.
No registration is required. For more information, call the Newburgh Free Library, 845-563-3600.
