Tired of looking at trash in the city? Now you can do something about it.
In celebration of Earth Day and to inspire the community to help keep Newburgh clean and green, Safe Harbors of the Hudson, along with Mount Saint Mary College, SUNY Orange, St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital and several Newburgh-based community organizations, will hold a Newburgh Community Cleanup event on Saturday, May 7.
This is an opportunity for community members, young and old, to be a part of what’s great in the city of Newburgh, organizers say. The cleanup will be held from 9:00 am-1:00 pm and a post-cleanup celebration will be held from 1:00-3:00 pm.
The cleanup efforts will cover the city from North Street to Bay View Terrace, and from Downing Park east to River Road (view a map of the cleanup area here). Safe Harbors is seeking cleanup participants of all ages. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
Participants should arrive at the Broadway/Liberty Street Lot (adjacent to the Ritz Theater) by 8:30 am. Supplies will be provided to participants and Safe Harbors is seeking sponsors to donate items such as heavy duty trash bags and work gloves.
For more information about the event or to get involved, contact June Henley at (845) 562-6940 ext. 110 or jhenley@safe-harbors.org.
