Bioregional Bash
The Railroad Playhouse will be the site of the first Biogreional Bash organized by the Active Potential Community Collective and Outsider Magazine. The collective is seeking to build a group of activists throughout the Hudson Valley to focus on environmental, social, political and economic issues. In February the group held a free market, where people could exchange or give away clothing and other items they no longer needed.
Friday’s bash will feature a workshop and discussion of hydrofacking at 6 pm, followed by an eclectic mix of bands and performers who will play into the night. Click here for a full list of the musicians appearing. Tickets are $10.
Reconnecting Families Summit
This Saturday, April 9, the City of Newburgh Youth Bureau, Newburgh Enlarged City School District Social Workers and Parent Liaison & SUNY Orange will sponsor a free “Reconnecting Families Summit.” Parents and youngsters are invited to attend the event which will also include food, giveaways, childcare, and garage parking at no cost.
The event will be held at Kaplan Hall, the newest addition to SUNY Orange’s Newburgh campus, from 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. Kaplan Hall is located at the intersection of Grand and First streets. Families may enter Kaplan Hall from Grand Street.
Laurence Juber
Saturday night brings solo performances by two musicians. Laurence Juber, a guitarist from London who is the former lead guitarist for Paul McCartney’s Wings, Juber fuses folk, jazz, pop, and classical into a multifaceted performance that belies the use of only one instrument.
The concerts will be held in the Ritz Theater Lobby at 107 Broadway in Newburgh. All tickets are general admission and include a reception with the musicians immediately following the concert. Seating is limited.
Jimmy Gnecco
Back at the Railroad Playhouse on Saturday, international recording artist Jimmy Gnecco will be performing an intimate acoustic performance of his new record “The Heart” at Railroad Playhouse. Jimmy has worked with world-renowned producers Steve Lillywhite, Ethan Johns, Tim Palmer and Rick Rubin. He’s also collaborated with Brian May from Queen on the Spiderman 2 soundtrack. Jimmy has toured all over the world with his band Ours with such artists as Pete Yorn, the Wallflowers, the Cult, Blue October, Filter, A-ha, Live, Radiohead, and somehow even Marilyn Manson.

Community Art Show Reception
Sunday is a day to head to the Newburgh Free Library, where a free public reception for the Community Art Show will be held in the library from 2 to 4 pm. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Newburgh Free Library and many of the artists whose work is hanging in the show will be on hand.
Newburgh’s Architectural History
At 3 pm you can catch a slide presentation of photos of historic Newburgh by well-known photographer and historian Tom Daley who will talk about the streets and architectural history of old Newburgh. Daley has received numerous awards for his preservation efforts. His presentation will be held in the auditorium.
