Find out how your child can have some electronics-free FUN on Saturday when the Greater Newburgh YMCA and other child-friendly groups celebrate Healthy Kids Day at the Newburgh Armory.
Among the groups who will be on hand is Empowered by Play, a group designed to promote imaginative play for children (and adults). Members of Empowered by Play will be kicking off Screen-Free Week, a nationwide effort to help children get away from the electronic media and have fun playing, reading, spending time with friends and being more physically active. Schools and libraries are also promoting the Screen-Free Week.
“Screen-Free Week is a much needed respite from the sreen media dominating the lives of so many children,” said Empowered by Play founder and director, Geralyn Bywater McLaughlin. A former teacher, McLaughlin added that any local child who successfully participates in Screen-Free Week can earn a free family pass to the Wildlife Education Center at the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum in Cornwall.
Visit www.empoweredbyplay.org for details or stop by the Armory at 355 South William Street from 1 to 4 pm on Saturday, April 16 and visit all the community organizations offering services for children.
