A 75-year-old old city of Newburgh woman is being charged with possession of illegal prescription drugs following a raid on her residence at 12 Van Cleft Avenue in Newburgh. Mary Weygant, who was convicted of selling heroin in 2003, was detained after police say they recovered 150 methadone pills, 73 hydrocodone pills, 27 oxycodone pills and more than $4,000 in cash.
Police made the seizure after officers from the narcotics unit and detective division executed a “no-knock” search warrant that was obtained after an investigation that lasted several months.
Six years after Weygant was convicted along with her daughter, Lulumae, of selling heroin, Lulumae was found murdered in her town of Newburgh apartment. Peter Dunne was convicted this past January for her murder, which prosecutors said occurred after she befriended Dunne, her neighbor in the apartment complex.
Mary Weygant is charged with five felonies: criminal possession of a controlled substance in the second degree, three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree.
