Larry Fauntleroy of the Poughkeepsie Guardian Angels said that he's not giving up efforts to build a chapter in Newburgh.
The Guardian Angles are asking residents of Newburgh to wear red on May 7th and 8th to display their support for making a safer city. Newburgh currently holds the distinction of being the city with the most violent crime in the state of New York. According to Larry Fauntleroy, the regional leader of the Guardian Angels, that won’t change until the people living in the city show that the good people in the community outnumber the perpetrators of violence.
Fauntleroy is challenging people to show support, saying that members of the Poughkeepsie chapter have been coming to Newburgh for the past three years to support this community.
The campaign is designed to elicit a visible show of support for all efforts in Newburgh to make the community safer. “We are asking people to wear red because that’s our color,” said Fauntleroy, “but it is not just about supporting the Angels, this is about supporting the local police and every community group that is working for a safer community.”
