Newburgh city council woman Christine Bello is in the hospital recuperating from a case of pneumonia that first struck last week. That’s the word from Mayor Nicholas Valentine, who told the council members on Monday that Bello was admitted on Saturday. Two days earlier she had missed a council meeting due to illness and Valentine noted then that she had closed her flower shop on one of the busiest days of the year, just before Mother’s Day.
City council woman Marge Bell said that she visited Bello in the hospital on Monday and found her well enough to send a statement asking about the status of her concerns about the cost of vehicles provided to department heads for their daily commute to work. Bello has asked for an end to this practice.
“She’s not too sick to think,” council woman Bell said about her colleague.
Earlier this month, Bello received the Republican party endorsement for her bid to run for mayor.
