City of Newburgh, library and school leaders are busy putting the finishing touches on a celebration this Saturday, May 14, when they hope to bring out kids and teens to celebrate with marching bands and a parade.
The Youth Pride Day celebration will feature the debut of the City of Newburgh’s own “Dynamic Approach Marching Band,” which has been practicing its moves weekly at the city recreation center in preparation for its starring role in the Children’s Day Parade. Later in the afternoon, the Dynamic Approach Marching Band will host the Battle of the Band Elements at Delano Hitch Stadium. At least nine bands have confirmed their participation in the Battle of the Band, some coming from as far away as Washington, D.C. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Doors open at 3:30 pm and show time is at 4:30 pm.
All young people are invited to take part in the parade, which begins forming at 11 am at Downing Park, then kicks off down South Street at 12 noon.
Family Reading Day at the Library
The parade will head to the Newburgh Free Library on Grand Street where children will find a variety of activities as part of Family Reading Day. Starting at 1 pm, children will be entertained by the Arm of the Sea Puppet Theater or can try their hand at balloon art, Mad Science and crafts by community agencies.

Free books and arts and crafts will be featured at the Newburgh Free Library, along with a giant puppet show.
Families can sign up for the Summer Reading Program and enjoy snacks, face painting, live animals and book giveaways.
For more information, call the City of Newburgh Recreation Department, 401 Washington Street, at 565-3230, or Chuck Thomas at Newburgh Free Library at 563-3614. The parade and events will go on, rain or shine.
