Voters in the greater Newburgh school district approved the 2011-2012 budget on Tuesday by a measure of 1,629 to 1,013, according to the unofficial vote tally. The $226.4 million budget will result in a tax levy increase of 3.78 percent. Voters also approved the Newburgh Free Library budget 1,589 to 996.
School board president Dawn Fucheck was re-elected to her seat with the largest number of votes for any candidate: 1,335. Thomas C. Woodhull and Mark Levinstein were elected to fill the remaining two seats from a total of nine candidates.
