Forty-five organizations have signed up to be part of the restored Memorial Day Parade that is scheduled to kick off at 10 am next Monday.
The city of Newburgh police will lead the marchers, followed the Musicians Parade Band and the Grand Marshall, local philanthropist William Kaplan. The honorary Grand Marshall will be Warren Boyd.
While there will be several bands, including Newburgh’s own Dynamic Approach Marching Band, parade organizers, led by city councilwoman Regina Angelo, remind participants that the day is designed “to pay respect to those brave men and women that have served and died so each of us can enjoy our freedom.” From the police and fire, to the American Legion and Purple Heart recipients, men and women in uniform will be represented, along with churches, sports teams, students and scouts.
The revived Memorial Day parade will be followed by a ceremony at Washington Headquarters Historic Site at 11:45 am.
