A public hearing on the city of Newburgh’s proposed Future Land Use Plan was held before the city council’s last session, moving the proposed plan forward in the planning process. Two speakers questioned whether the Armory and Delano Hitch Stadium should be re-classified as recreational but otherwise little comment was heard on the proposal.
The Future Land Use Plan is tied to the 2008 Master Plan that was designed to provide the framework for growth in the city until 2040. A Future Land Use Committee made up of residents and other interested parties* worked with a consultant to review the current zoning for portions of the city, project future demands and recommend zoning changes.
Among the highlights is a proposal to create a transit node on Broadway at the intersection of Lake Street that would include two public plazas. (See more highlights here.)
Once the Future Land Use Plan is adopted by the city council, the council will then begin work on re-writing the zoning code.
