Another Republican is getting into the race for the Newburgh city council. Alexander Bolorin, a Newburgh native who graduated from Newburgh Free Academy and Mount Saint Mary College, says that he is running so that people will have a choice among candidates for office.
Two Republicans have already announced their intention to run for two seats on the city council. John F. Penney and John N. Giudice received the backing of the city’s Republican committee last month. All three would-be candidates will have to submit nominating petitions by mid-July and, if they do, they will take part in a Republican primary when voters can decide which two candidates appear on the ballot in November’s general election.
Bolorin, who works at SUNY Orange’s Newburgh campus and who has worked with the city’s youth bureau, says that he thinks he can be a role model for young people to get more involved with the city’s futures.
“The city is on the verge of great things and we need people who want to make a difference,” Bolorin said in a phone interview.
