On June 23, 2011, Newburgh Free Academy graduates made their way across Academy Field to the applause of friends, family, and teachers. In total, 605 students graduated as the Class of 2011.
During the commencement exercises, Newburgh Free Academy Principal Peter Copeletti explained to students that they were gearing up to embark on the next phase of their life. He thanked the parents in attendance for always guiding their children along the way, from their first day of kindergarten to their first time behind the wheel. “Parents you were their first teachers, be proud of that,” explained Copeletti.
Cranarian Council President Mitchell Tuckette-Williamson, eloquently spoke to fellow students about coming together to change the image of Newburgh in both surrounding communities and in the media headlines. He challenged his classmates to follow their purpose in life and make the right decisions. “Live for Newburgh,” he told fellow students.
Salutatorian Lauren Berg thanked her friends and family for their guidance over the years that helped her succeed both in and out of the classroom. She encouraged others to be their best and act as an inspiration for others to live a life of purpose. “You all have an influence over those around you,” she told fellow classmates.
“It will be our decisions that define who we are,” explained Valedictorian Adam Morehead. Morehead shared with students that they must never be afraid of change and more importantly failure. “If you never try you will never succeed,” he explained.
