The Historical Society of Newburgh Bay and the Highlands is inviting all people of Hungarian descent to share memories and food of their heritage in a special celebration on July 17.
Historical society director Lisa Silverstone announced the Hungarian Heritage program will be the fourth in an annual series. “In 2008 we celebrated Newburgh’s Jewish heritage, in 2009, the Italians, in 2010 the Greeks and now, we will be celebrating our Hungarian neighbors,” Sliverstone said in a statement. “Members of the Newburgh area’s Hungarian community will gather to discuss and share the heritage of their early residents, businesses and neighborhoods. Enjoy the food, traditions, photographs, jokes, stories and memories of this vibrant community. “
If you are interested in joining a panel, please call 565-4352 and organizers invite people to bring their own memories and photos to share or to sit back and enjoy listening, tasting and learning.
The celebration begins at 3 pm on Sunday, July 17 at the Newburgh Heritage Center, 123 Grand St., Newburgh, NY. Please call 561-2585 for more information. The Society asks for help to continue to bring interesting, entertaining and educational programming to the community with a $5 suggested donation.
