The Newburgh Free Library now offers free – and legal – access to songs from Sony Music’s catalog through Freegal, an online database. Newburgh joins a growing network of public libraries that offer this service provided by the new media company, Library Ideas.
The service has made it possible for the Newburgh Free Library to increase the size and diversity of its collection. Freegal provides access to the entire Sony music catalog, containing over 500,000 songs. For a complete list of artists and their music, go to www.sonymusic.com. New music is added to the collection daily.
Three Free Downloads a Week for Library Users
Newburgh Free Library cardholders are eligible for three MP3 downloads per week at no direct cost. The Freegal music service is purchased by the Library. A library card number and PIN are necessary to access and download songs. To view, browse and download music from Freegal, go to www.newburghlibrary.org and click on the “Freegal” image. The music files do not expire, and are compatible with PCs, Macs, iPods, iPads and other MP3-compatible devices.
“Sony Music has an incredibly expansive and popular catalog and we are really excited to partner with them on this, a very important product for libraries,” said Brian Downing, co-founder of Library Ideas. “A library is a focal point of the community that requires many tools to excite people about library resources. More than anything, that is the reason for the service.”
