Members of the city of Newburgh police and fire departments received plaques on Monday evening from the Newburgh Rowing Club to thank them for taking part in a race during the Eastern New York Rowing Championships held at the club on May 22.
Crews from the police and fire department participated in the second annual municipal boat race during the championships. And for the second time, the fire department crew won the race.
Ed Kennedy, president of the club, told the council that the club works to promote rowing on the river and thanked the police and fire crews for putting boats in the river. He also handed the large trophy to the winning firefighters.
Kennedy reminded the city council that anyone can come down to the Newburgh Rowing Club‘s boathouse located at the foot of Renwick Street on Wednesday evenings during the month of July at 6:15 for a rowing lesson. Registration is free to all City of Newburgh residents and $10 for non-city residents.
