Police in the city of Newburgh raided a house on Friday, July 15, following complaints from neighbors about narcotics trafficking there. At 2:30 pm, the City of Newburgh Police SWAT Team, Narcotics Unit and Detective Division executed a “no knock” search warrant at 260 First St. and recovered 5.6 grams of crack cocaine, .6 grams of powdered cocaine and drug paraphernalia.
Police arrested four people, Danny Brown, 28, Tashawn Burden, 23, Jamar Mallory 24 and Devin Williams 21. They were all charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fourth degree (C felony), criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree (D felony) and criminally using drug paraphernalia in the second degree (A misdemeanor). Danny Brown is also currently on parole for drug possession.
Police also report that during the search, officers recognized a subject across the street who was wanted by detectives for a robbery that occurred earlier Friday in which the victim was stabbed with a knife in the arm. SWAT team members took Soniel Ayala, age 17, into custody and discovered that he possessed on him the knife believed to be used in the robbery. Ayala was held pending arraignment for robbery 1st degree (B felony) and assault 2nd degree (D felony).
