On Tuesday, August 2, local organizations, churches, and community partners will join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the 28th Annual National Night Out (NNO). The event, sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW), involves more than 10,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world, with more than 34 million people expected to participate in “America’s Night Out Against Crime.”
This year’s all-free NNO events will be at a central location, Delano-Hitch Recreation Park, 401 Washington Street, from 4:30-8:30 p.m. The lineup of activities includes Child ID’s, bouncy houses, a dunking booth, and a DJ. The soccer fields, basketball courts, and the Aquatic Center will be open all night. There will be free food and information available from the many partnering organizations.
NNO is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in local anticrime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. This is the 14th year for NNO in the City of Newburgh, and last year, more than 3,000 residents participated across the city.
This year’s event was a multi-agency effort by Hudson Health Plan, Maternal-Infant Services Network, City of Newburgh Police Department, TEAM Newburgh/Catholic Charities, Mobile Life Support Services, Latinos Unidos, Occupations, Inc, Planned Parenthood Mid-Hudson Valley, Alcoholism & Drug Abuse Council, AIDS Related Community Services (ARCS)/Project Reach Out, Labor 4 Life Family Day Care, City of Newburgh Youth Bureau and New York Life.
