The city of Newburgh Planning and Development department is making some staff changes in the wake of the departure of its director, Edward Lynch, on August 5.
City planner Ian MacDougall has been promoted to Acting Director of Planning and Development after six years working for the city. MacDougall played a key role in the development of the city’s 2008 Master Plan, as well as in parking and zoning changes. As acting director, he will manage the clean-up of contaminated Brownfield sites and continue developing the land use plan and the application process from developers interested in the mid-Broadway project.
As MacDougall assumes his new role, the city is announcing the addition of two more people to the department staff: Greta Simmons and Felix Medina. Simmons , a former bank manager and a Newburgh native, will act as Housing Loan Officer. Medina, who served five years as a code enforcement officer in the code compliance office, will now be enforcing city code for all phases of construction on properties financed through the planning and development office.
In a statement released by the city, Medina, another Newburgh native who lives in the East End, described his motivation for the job. “My biggest challenge is to somehow impact this entire City into wanting to improve its standard of living both physically and spiritually. The fact that I am Hispanic helps me to bring awareness of city processes to the Spanish-speaking community, which makes up more than 50% of our population.”
