Painters will converge on the Newburgh campus of SUNY Orange on Saturday, September 10, where they will set up easels and canvases to paint what they see around them in the green outside Kaplan Hall. The four-hour creative get-together is part of the 9th Annual Worldwide Paint Out sponsored by the International Plein Air Painters.
Plein Air painting is a broad term for painting outdoors where artists are motivated by the quality of natural light and atmosphere. Painters use a variety of media, from oils through watercolors and pastels.
SUNY’s Cultural Affairs office is organizing this local event, dubbed “Paint in Newburgh,” which will include a drumming circle on the green at noon. The public is encouraged to visit the campus to see the artists at work or to stroll through the finished artwork that painters will display at the end of the session, which is scheduled to run from 9 am to 1 pm. A rain date is scheduled for Sunday, September 11.
