Newburgh city police picked up six women on Thursday and charged them with prostitution in the third degree. The arrests came as a result of a joint investigation among city police, the New York State Police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team and the Orange County Sheriff’s Narcotics Unit in an operation targeting quality-of-life crimes.
The investigating team also targeted the Johns who patronize prostitutes and they arrested three men and charged them with patronizing a prostitute in the 4th degree, a Class A misdemeanor.
The women charged are Tameka Hanna, 34, Jennifer Mclaughlin, 33, Monika Yozzo, 22, Genevieve Albert, 43, Lourdes Velez, 41 and Yasmeen Brooks 36. Yasmeen Brooks also was charged with misdemeanor possession of heroin.
The men charged with patronizing prostitutes are Arthur Thomas, 33, of the city of Newburgh, Anthony Cardona, 21, of Wallkill, and Martin Guevara, 35, of the city of Newburgh. Anthony Cardona was additionally charged with felony possession of cocaine.
Champagne Drinker Charged with Possession of Gun, Drugs
A man drinking from a bottle of Moet & Chandon champagne on the sidewalk of West Parmenter Street on August 17 attracted the attention of members of the Anti-Crime Unit, who chased the suspect to William Street. When police officer Eric Henderson tackled the suspect, a loaded .38 caliber revolver fell from his waistband, police say, and when the officers searched him they found approximately 1.3 grams of suspected “crack” cocaine and 13 grams of marijuana.
Police then charged 25-year-old David Williams with criminal possession of a weapon in the second and third degree, criminal possession of a controlled Substance fifth degree, both felonies, unlawful possession marihuana, a violation, and possession of an open container of alcohol, a Newburgh city code violation.
Suspect Arrested in Vehicle Larceny Case
Police are asking people who had items stolen from their vehicles last week to contact the city of Newburgh police detective division as part of their investigation into a string of vehicles targeted recently. On Friday, police arrested a 15-year-old boy and charged him with possession of stolen property, a misdemeanor, in connection with the larcenies.
All of the vehicles are believed to have been unlocked at the time of the larcenies.
