Jaguars will prowl, monkeys howl, and a sea turtle will save a fisherman at the 23rd Annual International Festival, this coming Labor Day weekend. Arm-of-the-Sea Theater will present a bilingual performance of “Criss-Crossing Borders- the Panama Suitcase Show” on Saturday, Sept. 3 at 3 p.m. The show incorporates a handmade style of visual storytelling to portray kinship ties between animals and humans, and between people living on opposite sides of a border.
The Festival will be held Sept. 2-5 on the grounds of the Newburgh Armory Unity Center at 321 St. William Street. The show will go on, rain or shine. Midway rides and early-bird vendors will begin on Friday around 5 p.m. The festivities will be in full swing with, carnival rides and attractions on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 11 p.m. and on Monday from noon till 10 p.m.
This year, every day is “Wristband Day” For only $20 each day, festival goers can enjoy unlimited carnival rides during the following times: Friday: 5 – 11 p.m. and Saturday-Monday, from 1-5 p.m.
There will also be a variety of international and local cuisine, and the return of an early International Festival tradition- music by local bands. Information on the entertainment lineup will be made available shortly and posted on the City website, www.cityofnewburgh-ny.gov.
