A 13-year-old boy from the city of Newburgh appeared in Family Court Wednesday morning after police allegedly found a loaded 9mm handgun and nearly three grams of suspected crack cocaine in his possession.
Police report that after receiving a complaint around 12:30 am on Wednesday they observed via a surveillance camera a group of people on Lander Street passing a hand rolled cigarette that looked like a marijuana joint. Officers approached the group and the 13-year-old defendant tried to hide, police say. When officers found the teen crouched in the vestibule of a house, where, they say, he was attempting to conceal the gun.
The unidentified teen faces felony charges of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree.
