A Town of Newburgh man faces numerous felony charges in the thefts of air conditioning units from area buildings.
Antonio Mugnano, age 32, of Ridgeview Drive, was arrested Friday afternoon following an investigation into the thefts of large ground-level air conditioning units from the backs of several buildings. The total value of the units was about $30,000.
Police say the A/C units were targeted mostly for the copper piping and tubing which can be sold for scrap. Four thefts occurred over the Columbus Day weekend and one occurred Thursday night. The thefts occurred in the area of Route 17K and D’Alfonson Road and included offices, a bank building and a church, which was hit on two separate occasions.
Mugnano, who is currently on parole following a burglary conviction, was charged with five counts of grand larceny in the fourth degree and five counts of criminal mischief. The investigation into the thefts is continuing, police say.
