From Kerry Butrick, Newburgh Enlarged City School District
During a recent football game, Newburgh Free Academy Junior Varsity Cheerleaders collected $85 in donations to benefit the St. Francis Food Pantry in Newburgh, thanks to the generosity of Newburgh fans. The donations were then forwarded to Father John Vondras, the Pastor at St. Francis Church.
According to Father John, the food pantry services approximately 2,500 families and due to the current economy and poverty in Newburgh, donations and volunteers are needed now more than ever. “It’s wonderful. We’re very happy with their generosity,” he explained. Father John went on to explain that compassion for others, especially from young adults, will hopefully serve as a role model to others in the community.
