The city of Newburgh is reminding property owners that they can now recoup some savings if they want to make improvements to their one- or two-family homes
The city council wanted to stimulate investment in renovations when it passed a local law that exempts the cost of the improvements from an increase in tax assessment. If homeowners make an investment between $5,000 to $80,000 in capital improvements in their property, the exemption would be 100 percent the first year, then decrease by 12.5 percent each year for eight years.
Applications and instructions are posted online at the Assessor’s page on the City’s website or at the Assessor’s Office, (845) 569-7333. All exemption applications and renewals must be annually filed at the Assessor’s Office by March 1 of the given year.
