To the Editor:
It’s with great disappointment and shock to learn that Supervisor Wayne Booth and the Town Board have put in for a pay raise this year, and are trying to pass it the day before an election so as to avoid having the issue come up prior to people voting. Most individuals were not going to see a small announcement, required by law, in back of a local newspaper. The Supervisor and board knew this and showed arrogance in the assumption that no one would pay attention and they would win the election, November 8th, and get a pay raise.
Is Supervisor Booth so out of touch with the struggles of the people in the Town of Newburgh that under one of the worst financial times in our country he has the audacity to vote himself a pay raise? Whether it’s 6%, 3% or one single penny, this is insulting, inappropriate and disrespectful. Mr. Booth’s campaign slogan to vote for him is that he is “holding the tax line”. In his 10 years now, Booth has raised taxes a cumulative 134%. This is not holding the tax line, this is obliterating it!
