On Friday and Saturday evenings, the public is invited to take a nighttime tour of Washington’s Headquarters Historical Site, where you will be guided through the shadowy interior of the 18th-century home that served as the General’s headquarters at the end of the Revolutionary War. Join the night watchman making his rounds and find out just what does happen within the nocturnal shadows of an old, venerated house and museum. Tours are every half-hour from 5 to 7:30 pm. Admission for this Special Event is $4.00 per person. Reservations are necessary and should be made no later than November 3rd (today!)
Also on Saturday, the act performing at the Railroad Playhouse on S. Water Street will have you in stitches. Rev. Bob Levy, who appears on the Howard Stern Show, and Friends will perform at 8 pm on Saturday. Tickets are $25.
On Sunday, a film and two musical events are being offered, one a benefit, and one just for fun.
At 2 pm, the 3rd Annual Orange County Jewish Film Festival opens with two Jewish-themed films at Mount Saint Mary’s College’s Hudson Hall.
100 Voices, A Journey Home is a musical documentary that tells the history of Poland, the birthplace of Cantoral music, highlighting the resurgence of Jewish culture through the personal reflections and musical selections of a group of cantors and acclaimed composer Charles Fox “Killing Me Softly” and “I Got A Name.” Learn about the Jewish culture that produced one of the most artistic and educated societies that once flourished in Europe.
I Was the Child of Holocaust Survivors by director and animator Ann Mari- Fleming captures the pain and confusion of Bernice Eisenstein living the trauma of the Holocaust secondhand. Fleming movingly captures the need to at once live with and part with the weight of the past.
A Black and White Affair Features NFA Keyboardists
At 3 pm at the Grace United Methodist Church at 468 Broadway, Elissa Zahn will solo with the NFA Keyboard Ensemble under the director of Jillian Caci. The concert, dubbed “A Black and White Affair,” is a benefit for the church Food Closet and for the Hudson Valley SPCA. Suggested donation is $5 for adults, $3 for children under 12. A reception will follow the concert.
Toe-tapping with the Homegrown String Band
Also at 3 pm, toe-tapping music will fill the auditorium of the Newburgh Free library with the appearance of the Homegrown String Band. One of America’s premier performers of original and neo-traditional acoustic American roots music, the family members who make up this quartet hail from Rocky Point, NY.
With unique instrumentation, percussive flatfoot dancing, and many varied musical influences they take their audiences on a rollicking ride through the sounds of American music. Admission is free, with refreshments courtesy of the Friends of the Newburgh Free Library.
