During the month of November, visitors to Newburgh City Hall can enjoy a celebration of creatures great and small with “Hooves, Feathers, & Fur,” by Lucy DiMiceli. A reception for the artist will be held on Friday, Nov. 18 from 2-4 p.m. in the lobby of City Hall, 83 Broadway.
The endless variety of wildlife holds a special fascination and inspiration for Lucy DiMiceli. Her deep connection and relationship with animals is brought forth in the softness of pastels and the richness of oil paints, combined with her use of classical realism. Although recognized as an accomplished ‘Animal Artist’, her favorite subject will always be the horse. Her life long dream to own a horse came in the form of one very opinionated Arabian gelding. Time spent with this horse along with many others, has enabled Lucy to identify each horse’s individual personality and is evident in each equine portrait.
Born and raised in Cornwall, New York, Lucy has been an artist all her life. In elementary school a first place ribbon for a crayon drawing of a horse started it all, followed by a succession of awards over the years. In high school oil paints and pastels replaced the crayons. Her talent and style have developed and evolved through her studies at Ladycliff College, Harriman College, instruction under John and Paul Gould of the Bethlehem Art Gallery, Joan Slocum, The American Academy of Equine Arts in Lexington, Kentucky, classes at private studios and numerous workshops, as well as countless hours of brush in hand. She is currently a member of the ‘Equine Art Guild’, the ‘Canine Art Guild’, the Saratoga Arts Council, and ‘Oil Painters of America’.
Lucy’s paintings hang in private collections throughout the eastern coast of the United States and can be viewed in exhibits throughout the area. When not working on private commissions, she continues to work on original paintings in her studio. Lucy can be reached at (845)-564-3205or e-mail lucydimiceli@hvc.rr.com.
