The City of Newburgh is expecting to have a series of projects that will be awarded to small local subcontractors in early 2012 and city leaders want to get the word out about how to apply for these opportunities.
Courtney Kane, the city’s community development director, told city council on Monday that six buildings are scheduled for demolition and will include landscaping, asbestos removal and fence building projects for local hires. Sidewalk and streetscapes projects are also scheduled for the spring.
The city is offering two workshops, one on Friday, November 18 at 2 pm and one on Monday, November 21 at 9am in City Council Chambers at 83 Broadway. At the workshops local businesses can register as qualified Section 3 businesses.
In order to qualify as a Section 3 business, the business owner and/or operator must be a City resident who meets low/moderate income guidelines, or 30% their work force must be City residents who meet the guidelines.
For more information, or to register for the workshops, call (845) 569-9400.
