Two groups of community-minded folks are having celebrations on Sunday that create a sense of momentum on the streets of Newburgh.
Over at the Newburgh Armory Unity Center on South William Street, four individuals and another four organizations will be recognized for their commitment to creating a safe and supportive place for young people to play soccer, football or pursue other dreams.
Some 8,000 people have used the Armory’s gymnasium and meeting spaces since the Unity Center took possession of the building on Thanksgiving weekend one year ago. A year later, organizers want to say ‘thank you’ to those who made the center a success.
A ceremony will be held at 12 noon, followed by a luncheon at 1 pm. The public is invited to join in the celebration. Please RSVP to (845) 245-4035 or via email to dglenn@newburgharmory.org.

Volunteer James Gagliano can be found most Saturdays coaching local youth at the Newburgh Armory's gymnasium.
The 1st Anniversary Committee is chaired by William Kaplan. Members are New York State Senator Bill Larkin, and Orange County Deputy County Executive James O’Donnell.
Those being recognized for their service are W. Chris Hawkins, David Rider, Esq., Lissette Martinez, Carmen Vazqueztell, James Gagliano, IBEW #363, Laborers Local #17, Plumbers & Steamfitters #373 and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh.
