If you are a lover of free jazz music, this summer you will have to go on the road to hear some of the great acts booked by Ferry Godmother Productions during the past five years in the free jazz concert series at the Newburgh Waterfront.
Aquanetta Wright, aka The Ferry Godmother, decided that the Newburgh Jazz Series had outgrown it waterfront home due to lack of parking and other issues that arose at the site this past summer. When she couldn’t find a home in Newburgh, she put the word out to other communities that she was looking for a new home for the series and when several communities responded, she decided to take the production to each of them.
Wright, who is the executive producer of Ferry Godmother Productions, is calling the touring production the “Ferry Godmother Music Circuit,” and it will present shows at least once a week throughout July and August in five communities in Orange, Ulster and Westchester counties.
“While the concerts are about the music and art, what really makes the Ferry Godmother Music Circuit unique is the real feeling of community that the event generates,” Wright said in a press release this week that describes efforts to get the show on the road.
