A new exhibit opens Saturday at the Ann Street Gallery. Woven Stories: Contemporary Tapestries, features hand-woven works by a group of select artists in a show curated by gallery director Virginia Walsh.
Tapestry weaving is an ancient art, with each generation giving it new meaning. In this exhibit, the 20 artists from the U.S. and Canada have employed the medium to address issues like gender, politics and the environment, creating large scale hangings and smaller works.
Artist featured in the exhibition are: Bren Ahearn, Kate Anderson, and Janet Austin. George-Ann Bowers, Barbara Burns, Betty Ferguson, Louise Halsey, Susan Iverson, Tari Kerss, Mary Kester, Susan McGehee, Margo MacDonald, Pavlos Mayakis, John Paul Morabito, Erin M. Riley, Sarah Salin, Cameron Taylor-Brown, Betty Vera, Linda Wallace, Sherri Woodard Coffey, and Marzena Ziejka.
Saturday’s Artist Reception is open to the public from 6 to 9 pm at the Ann Street Gallery, 104 Ann Street, in Newburgh. The opening of this exhibit will coincide with the next guitar concert upstairs at the Ritz Theater. On Saturday, December 10 at 8 PM, Frank Vignola’s Hot Club, is back by popular demand headlining the third concert of the 2011-12 Tom Humphrey Guitar Series at The Ritz.
