The annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony on lower Broadway in Newburgh will take place on Wednesday, December 14, at 6 pm and perhaps no one is more excited than city council woman Regina Angelo, who made it her mission to find a tree and collect presents to hand out to children that day. Angelo got the donated tree from Dr. Terrizzi in New Windsor and she said Monday that “eight huge bags of toys” are ready to be delivered by Santa on Wednesday. The public is invited to attend the tree lighting and the reception to follow at the Karpeles Museum at 94 Broadway.
Local merchants on Liberty Street plan to stay open until 8 pm on Wednesday for holiday shoppers. Several handmade craft vendors who took part in the annual Bells on Broadway will also be offering their wares in the lobby of the Ritz Theater at 107 Broadway until 8 pm.
Next week, the city will honor the beginning of Hannukah with the lighting of a menorah at Marine Drive near 2nd Street at 5:30 pm on Thursday, December 22, with a reception to follow at the Yellow Bird Gallery on Front Street.
