The outlines of a future park at the Newburgh waterfront are taking shape after the city council voted Monday to accept the donation of a parcel of land just north of Torches restaurant. The new park will be known as the South Street Park.
For more than two years, the city’s Waterfront Advisory Committee has been studying how to expand public access to the Hudson River. The non-profit Scenic Hudson group has provided its technical assistance with the plans.
The cooperation agreement with Josco, a local company owned by restaurateurs Joseph Bonura and Nick Citera, states that a dock, wharf or other structure may be built over the water, which now includes a small dock marina. The donated parcel is currently a paved parking lot.
