It’s official: There will be no layoffs in the city of Newburgh police department next year following the approval of an agreement Tuesday between the city and the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association of Newburgh (PBA).
Layoffs loomed large since the city’s acting manager Richard Herbek introduced a preliminary budget in September that called for the elimination of 15 positions in the police department. A last-minute deal between the city and the police union that included no raises for police and a series of benefit givebacks led to the agreement.
