Town of Newburgh police say they may have solved a rash of vandalism aimed at mailboxes and vehicles in the Middlehope section with the arrest Sunday of four men.
Police Lieutenant Michael Clancy reports that residents began reporting vandalism around 2 am on Sunday and responding officers found several cars with broken windows and damaged or stolen mailboxes.
While investigating a smashed front window at the World Nails Salon on Route 9W, officers saw a passing car that fit the description of the suspect vehicle in an earlier vandalism case. They stopped the car and found several mailboxes inside that had been stolen earlier.
Police then arrested the four occupants of the car and charged them with two counts of criminal mischief. Charged in the case are Kevon Dadgarian, 20, of Sloane Road, Newburgh; Ryan O’Hara, 19, of HyVue Drive, Newburgh, Donald Starkey, 21, of Cedar Avenue, New Windsor and Kyle Caraway, 21, of Nevis Drive, New Windsor.
The investigation is continuing and each suspect faces numerous additional counts of criminal mischief and petit larceny. They have been linked to over two dozen incidents so far. Residents who had recent damage are asked to contact Town Police at 564-1100.
