An alert tax driver who saw a man throw a cash register over a chain link fence on Broadway led to the arrest of a Newburgh man on burglary charges.
City of Newburgh police say that Philip Ramos, age 31, smashed the window of a Laundromat at 337 Broadway and grabbed the cash register. After he allegedly threw the cash register over the fence, he climbed over, too, and fled with the register.
Police arrested Ramos shortly after getting the all and recovered the register, which only had a small amount of money instead. Damade to the laundromat’s broken window is estimated at $1,000.
Ramos had been arrested this past August after he allegedly burglarized Sacred Heart Church on Ann Street. In that case, police found identification belonging to Ramos inside the church. Ramos was found a few blocks from the church in possession of jewelry belonging to the church.
