Dutchess County Legislator John Forman has been selected by the Republicans to run as the GOP candidate for the 100th District New York State Assembly seat that was left open by the death of Assemblyman Tom Kirwan in November. Forman will face Democratic candidate Frank Skartados, who held the seat from 2008-10.
Several GOP hopefuls had put their names in for a chance to run for the seat in the March 20th special election, including Kirwan’s daughter, Victoria Kirwan Fabiano, and former Newburgh city councilwoman Christine Bello. Bello, who lost her bid for mayor in November, said Tuesday that she recognizes that other candidates had more experience than she does. “I thought it was remote,” Bello said. “I really do love politics but I may just follow it from now on.”
John Forman currently represents the city of Beacon in the county legislature and is a trustee of Dutchess County Community College.
