The Middlehope section of the town of Newburgh is seeing an up tick in development with the planned construction of a Quick Chek gas station and convenience store on the site of a former drive-in movie theater that had sat abandoned, its giant screen peeling, for years. The remnants of the drive-in have been dismantled and the 11-acre property leveled in preparation for the construction.
The 6,500 square foot Quick Chek store will be the latest in the Hudson Valley for the New Jersey-based company. In addition to gas, the stores offer fresh fairy, sliced deli and some grocery products.
Newburgh town supervisor Wayne Booth praised the addition of the Quick Chek store when he recently toured the property on Route 9W. The location is right next to the site where a large steakhouse and strip club is planned.
“The sleeping giant of Route 9W has come alive with development of this new store,” noted Richard Lease, of John J. Lease Realtors, in a press release. Lease brokered the sale of the property to Quick Chek.
Earlier this month Supervisor Booth faced critics at a town board who questioned the impact of the planned Mansion Gentlemen’s Club and Steakhouse on the family-oriented character of the neighborhoods off Route 9W. Supporters of the new club have noted that the Fantasy Island exotic club has existed right on Route 9W for years without causing much fanfare.
