The Newburgh Jazz Series is moving to the Arboretum in Thomas Bull Memorial Park, in Montgomery, where it will have room to expand the range of performances and create an arts and crafts show.
The free weekly summer series, which was started by Aquanetta Wright (The Ferry Godmother) and a team of volunteers on the Newburgh waterfront five years ago, outgrew that space as more and more people came to hear an eclectic line-up of jazz musicians. Producers also added two new music series last year, one a Gospel series and one featuring Doo-Wop, which will also re-locate to the county park.
In a press release, Aquanetta expressed her pleasure with the new location. “I am very excited about this incredible opportunity for growth and I will continue to use these events as a means of bridging cultures, strengthening communities and stimulate the economy,” she said.
Anyone interested in becoming a sponsor of the jazz or doo-wop series can contact Aquanetta by email at sponsors@ferrygodmother.com or call (225) 366-2442.
