Jaguar Land Rover to hire 5000 new staff

Candidates who can crack this code will be fast tracked to the recruitment process.

Specifically, it aims to take on more than 1,000 electronic and software engineers for its expanding business, due to the demand for luxury cars seen in the US and China in the past year.

Eventually, the 5000 people will be working on software systems, cyber systems, app development and graphics performance – suggesting that the roles are not just in Jaguar’s driverless programme, but in other dimensions of its tech operations, too. “It’s a major change in the way the business looks for candidates, aiming to tackle the engineering skills gap, inspire and attract a diverse range of talent and new thinking”, JLR said in a statement.

The new global initiative, which will be backed by an augmented reality smartphone game created in tandem with iconic virtual band Gorillaz, will see over 1,000 new employees working on new electronics and software, including autonomous technology and upcoming electric vehicle tech. In the mixed reality app, applicants can explore the garage of the band’s home in 360° and take part in a two-part challenge.

Within the Gorillaz app, a Jaguar Land Rover recruitment area has been launched. “It will be the first of its kind“, Alex Heslop, JLR’s head of electrical engineering, said. The I-Pace has begun production at a third-party factory in Austria, although Jaguar Land Rover has said it would like to build electric vehicles in the U.K. Jaguar Land Rover plans to have an electric option for its entire lineup by 2020.

The project follows on from Jaguar Land Rover’s STEM initiative with Gorillaz in 2016, where founder member and female guitarist, Noodle, became Jaguar’s Formula E Racing Ambassador.

If you download the new Gorillaz app from either the iTunes App Store or Google Play, you can go through a process that could end up with a job offer. The company employs over 40,000 people worldwide.
