Here’s your dose of badassery for the day: A Kentucky doctor delivered a baby right before going into labor.
Dr Amanda Hess is an obstetrician-gynecologist based at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center, in Kentucky, in the United States, and was admitted as a patient a week ago to give birth to her second child.
The patient was already fully dilated while waiting for her on-call doctor to arrive at the hospital, but the patient’s baby was not going to wait, Hess said to WKYT. Not only does she look like a stunning model but while she was getting into her patient gown to prepare for her induction and delivery she overheard the nurses preparing for a woman in active labor who needed to deliver immediately because the baby was in distress – that baby was coming and needed help! “I put on some boots over my flip flops and found another gown to cover myself up and did put my stuff to deliver on and delivered a baby”, Hess told WLEX-TV.
Hess’ own baby girl was later delivered.
“I had actually taken a call the day before, so I thought really that I was working up to the last minute“.
The unusual delivery was recounted first by Dr Hala Sabry, who runs a Facebook page for doctors with children in the U.S. called Physicians Moms Group.
Down the hall, her former patient, Leah Johnson, was in labor with her fourth baby, and her contractions were speeding up; but the on-call doctor had yet to arrive. “I’m thankful for her”. “I was in my own world there”. Halliday-Johnson told PEOPLE. “She was in complete doctor mode”.
The story is obviously awesome, but while fellow ob/gyns give Dr. Hess serious props, they aren’t surprised. “And I’m more comfortable with delivering someone else’s baby than my own, for sure”. “Now enjoy your maternity leave!”
